Mrs Judy Carr in reference to her Pointer mix "Mackie".
Mackie has become incredibly compliant with the expectation of deferential behavior. It is really lovely! He has always been a dog who is interested in pleasing us, so his training has gone along very well. He sits to say please (for food, to go out, to come in, to come out of his crate or out of the car, etc. -- with Riley always going first in situations where Riley is present). We are training the basic instructions of Sit, Stay, Down, and Come and are just at the point of starting to challenge his responses by going to slightly more distracting environments. (We had trained the basics before, but we took the approach of pretending he knew nothing and starting over from scratch after our visit to Cornell.) He is sitting deferentially beside me as I type this and often does this while I work, eventually settling in quietly by my feet. (It's lovely!!)"
